What is your favorite translation? If you know why, why?

New American Standard (NASB). My wife prefers the NIV. The NASB is a literal transaltion (sort of. There aren't really any exact translations since they'd be almost unreadable as Greek and Hebrew don't translate to English very well). The NIV is very readable. Both translations say the same thing, just in different words.

I like the NIV because it is so readable and easy to understand, but I still love KJV and the memory verses I learned back when I was a kid in Sunday School.

I need to either get a new Bible or have mine rebound, and I've thought about getting a side-by-side of the NIV and either the NASB or the KJV. I could see two different translations and maybe see something in the text I haven't really appreciated before.

Welcome to The Baptist Page Mustang. Personally I prefer the NIV, although there are some passages that are worded beautifully in the KJV that just don't sound the same in modern language. Same meaning, just not as...well beautiful.
